Practice Journaling to Quit Drinking
Put Your Thoughts Into Words. Discover What They Have to Tell You.
Journaling gives you a place to slow down, sort through your thoughts, and better understand what you’re feeling. You don’t need to be a writer, and you don’t need to know what to say before you begin.
This interactive exercise will guide you through a few simple questions to help you explore what’s on your mind, find perspective, and discover what you want to take forward. Journaling to quit drinking is an amazing tool to reset your mindset and counter all the pro-alcohol messages you get every day.
A sentence or two is enough. You can also leave this blank and continue.
Look What You've Written
Here's your entry, brought together in one place. You can copy it, add to it in your own journal, or simply notice what came up.
Your writing stays in this browser page only. It is not sent to Quit Drinking Plan or saved when you leave or refresh.
Why Writing in a Journal Helps
Our minds can get crowded with thoughts, feelings, worries, and assumptions. When everything stays in our heads, it can be difficult to separate what we’re feeling from what we know to be true.
Journaling creates an opportunity to slow down and look at those thoughts more clearly.
Writing things down can help you recognize patterns, understand your reactions, question old beliefs, and notice things you might otherwise overlook. Sometimes you’ll discover something important. Other times, simply putting your feelings into words can bring a little clarity.
And journaling isn’t just for working through difficult emotions. It’s also a place to recognize progress, celebrate small victories, explore possibilities, and appreciate what’s going well in your life.
You don’t have to know what you think before you start writing. Sometimes writing is how you find out.
There’s no right way to journal. You don’t need perfect sentences, profound insights, or pages of writing. A few honest words are enough to begin.
The goal isn’t to create something worth reading. It’s to give yourself a place to think, reflect, and get to know yourself a little better.
